Ways to Fix Credit

Many people are wondering how to repair their bad credit. It’s not easy for them to handle that problem. Your first instinct might be to file for bankruptcy when you’re in over your head. It’s not always the best solution. Really, it’s the solution of last resort. Here are some tips for credit repairing, when you’re done and the last derogatory marks have been amended or removed, the feeling of relief is one of the best feelings in the world. You should try it on your own. The feeling of having a perfect credit record is great!

First, you should work out a budget. You should sit down with all of your bills and work out a budget. It’s important for you to set aside what you need for rent, car payments, insurance and maintenance, utilities, groceries, etc, and determine how much you have left to throw at your debts. It’s a good way to stick to your budget very carefully while paying things off. But you should always remember you must be certain to leave yourself a little wiggle room for emergencies.

It’s a good way to get your credit reports to check out whether there are errors in your credit record. Recent legislation requires that all three major credit reporting agencies provide you with one free copy of your credit report each year. Print out several copies of each bureau’s report. Get yourself settled in with a highlighter and a package of post-it notes, and go over each report carefully to check for inaccuracies. Highlight any you find and stick a post-it in that spot explaining why it is wrong. If you have receipts to back it up, attach a copy of the receipt.

If there are errors in your credit report, you should go and dispute incorrect information, compose a letter to each agency explaining which information is incorrect, and ask them to either verify the information or delete the listing. Enclose a copy of the report with the mistake circled, highlighted or otherwise clearly indicated, as well as copies of any supporting documents. Go over each report and make a list of your small debts, and to whom they are owed. Rather than consolidate them, which will actually drag out the payment process your best choice is going to be to pay these off outright. You should make a list about small debts in order of priority and affordability. If you want to have a perfect credit, these small things will help you repair the credit record. Only in this way you could have a fantastic credit.

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get your credit reports for free from all major credit bureaus.
On their website you will find the forms to dispute any entries that are incorrect.
Do yourself a favor so… don’t dispute everything in sight but only things that aren’t yours.

Paying off delinquent accounts will not take them off your report but only add the remark “paid in full” etc. to the entry.
Your credit report is a reflection of your payment history and no parts of this history will be deleted just because you made good on old debt.

Eventually old debts that aren’t kept active will fall off your credit report within 5 to 7 years.

Stay current on your active accounts and make substantial payments, not just the min. payment, and keep your credit balances low.

To get a car I would suggest you save up a nice down payment amount – this might help. You can also try to get a car loan financed thru a credit union. It helps of course to be a member of a credit union and have an active account with them.

You won’t know where you are standing until you ask a lender to pre-approve you for a car loan. Don’t get suckered into a high interest loan from a car sales man… have the loan approval before you go car shopping. That way you can’t get scammed by high interest car loans financed by the dealer ship.
