Fixing Credit Problems of the past…?

Question by Camden O: Fixing Credit Problems of the past…?
Fixing Credit Problems of the past…?
Is there a “real” way to fix your credit? Not some “fly by night” company, a real way to fix it. I understand that it might take a while and some money, but who, where and how?
And what does Fall off your report mean? Do things only stay on your credit report so long?? 99% of the negative things that I have are from like 10+ years ago. I was around 20 and made some stupid decisions.
So then if I fix my credit, how does that effect my score going up? And help with being eligible for anything?

Q&A: Bankruptcy and fixing credit?

Question by emmmay61: Bankruptcy and fixing credit?
I filed Bankruptcy (Chapter 7) in 2002 – after a divorce. I then had to file Bankruptcy (Chapter 13) in 2007 because of a foreclosure on my home. I’m one month from finishing the Chapter 13. Is my credit screwed for the rest of my life? What can I do to begin to increase my credit score.

I should think that you have learned a thing or two from these bancruptcies.
This is what I would do to come back on my credit:
1. Do not take on any obligations that you are not totally comfortable paying off. Perhaps it would be best to not take on ANY new obligations-period- for the time being.
2. Pay all small bills, such as utilities, the moment you get them.
3. Cut up all credit cards, if you have any.
Good luck.

Taking 6 years to graduate may be a good idea, given the terrible economy right now. It may take that long to recover.

I would take no more than 6-10 credit hours. Have at least one class be one that you can drop with no complications or repercussions if you feel overwhelmed.

Good Luck!
