What does it mean when a seller offers to give us 3000 in credit towards fixing a potential house?

Question by errinella2: What does it mean when a seller offers to give us 3000 in credit towards fixing a potential house?
My husband and I are in the process of purchasing our first home. We had it inspected and found out it needs a new septic tank, new plumbing under the house, and some electrical work done. We asked the sellers to fix these items. The counter offered to give us 3000 in credit towards the repairs. What does that mean?

It means you’re getting taken to the cleaners. I’m not sure what “some’ electrical work is, but plumbing and septic alone will easily probably run you $ 10 K. If it has at least three major problems, there are probably more or others about to happen. My advice: NEVER buy a ‘fixer-upper” for a first home. Look elsewhere. Make any purchase contract contingent on a pre-settlement inspection by a professional home inspector of your choice.
