Q&A: Fixing credit to sign a lease?

Question by belle: Fixing credit to sign a lease?
I have just been informed that my current landlord (who is also my roomate), will be getting married. I do not have a written agreement with him, and I’m okay with moving, but I’m going to run into problems with my credit.
Can someone with working experience please tell me exactly how the credit qualification process is determined when it comes to renting an apartment/house?
I’m 25 and have little credit, some of which is poor. I know I would not qualify currently, and I have until Dec. to resolve my score (move out time!).
Thank you so much, any little advice would be helpful. 🙂

different landlords have different criteria. some only look for any evictions, or property manangent issues.
others look at the overall credit picture. while others do not even look but take your credit Fee.

it is hard to know, in advance which type of landlord you are looking at.
but what i would suggest is that when you are applying to a complex, that you be upfront with them and do not waste their time. they will appreciate it and you will not waste $ $ $ on credit checks that do not work for you. Now in order for this to work, you need to know exactly what is on your credit…so run all three agencies -so you are aware of your report.

good luck 🙂
